We’re Growing With Your Kids: Introducing Our New Project Kits
As children grow, their creativity grows with them.
At My Mini Maker, we’ve always believed that play should meet children where they are — supporting their development, interests and confidence at every stage.
Over the past few months, we’ve been listening closely to parents and watching how your Mini Makers engage with our kits. One thing has become very clear: some children are ready for more challenge, more independence and more ownership in their creative play.
That’s why we’re excited to introduce the next step in the My Mini Maker journey — our brand new Project Kits.
Why are we extending the age range?
Our Sensory Kits (0–3) and Activity Kits (3–7) are designed to support early exploration, creativity and learning through play. But as children grow older - particularly around ages 7–9 - their needs begin to shift.
Many children at this stage:
-
Want to work more independently
-
Enjoy following instructions and planning steps
-
Take pride in completing something from start to finish themselves
-
Are ready for projects that take longer and feel more purposeful
Extending our age range allows us to continue supporting children as they grow, ensuring that they can still benefit from creative play.
Moving from sensory play to real projects
For older children, we’re making an intentional change we are removing the sensory activity and it is being replaced with structured project activity.
While sensory play is incredibly valuable for children, some Mini Makers often thrive when given a clear goal, opportunities to problem-solve and a project that takes more than one session.
Our new Project Kits are designed to be completed across 30–45 minute stages, making them easy to pause and pick up again - perfect for after school, weekends and busy family schedules.
Building problem-solving, independence and confidence
At the heart of our Project Kits is a focus on project thinking — the ability to plan, adapt, persevere and see a task through. Through each Project Kit, children are encouraged to:
-
Read and follow instructions independently
-
Plan the order of their steps
-
Solve small challenges as they arise
-
Make creative decisions and personalise their work
-
Experience the pride of completing a longer project
These skills support not just creativity, but also confidence, resilience and independence — all essential foundations as children move through KS1 and into lower KS2.
What’s staying the same?
It’s important to say:
Our Sensory Kits and Activity Kits aren’t going anywhere.
We’re not replacing what works — we’re adding the next step.
The My Mini Maker journey now looks like this:
-
Sensory Kits (0–3): open-ended sensory exploration
-
Activity Kits (3–7): hands-on crafts and playful learning
-
Project Kits (7–9): independent, multi-step creative making
Each kit is designed to support children exactly where they are.
Introducing our first Project Kit: Build a Space Shuttle 🚀
Our very first Project Kit invites children to build their own space shuttle — combining construction, creativity and imagination in one rewarding project.
It’s designed for children who love to make, create and challenge themselves — and who are ready to take the lead.
We’re so excited to grow alongside your Mini Makers and can’t wait to see the amazing projects they create next 💛
