Glue a loo roll trunk and a cotton wool top to each of four sheets, label them by season and paint the tops white, pink and green, bright green, then red and orange. Ages 3 to 7, about 30 minutes plus drying.

Let's learn about the seasons of the year by making trees together. Gluing and painting support fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and using those skills through play is helpful for mastering handwriting too.

You will need

4 pieces of paper
4 loo rolls
A bag of cotton wool
Glue
Paint and a paintbrush
Marker pen

How to set it up

Glue a loo roll upright at the bottom of each piece of paper as a trunk.
Glue cotton wool above each trunk to make the top of the tree.
Label the trees winter, spring, summer and autumn.
Talk about how a tree looks in each season, then paint the cotton wool: white for winter, pink and light green for spring, bright green for summer, red and orange for autumn.
Add clouds, sun or snowflakes to suit each season.
