Cosy Home Fun For Cold, Dark Nights

As the nights draw in and temperature drops, playing outside is going to be less appealing, much better to stay cosy and snuggle up inside. That said, keeping little ones entertained can be challenging. They got bored quicker than the kettle boils, right?

The good news is we have some fun ideas for cosy nights that will keep them quiet, off screens and having fun - ta-da the perfect hat trick.

Pour a cup of tea and enjoy a read, because let’s face it. It’s definitely the weather to put your feet up and get prepared for the cosy season.

Get Cosy With The Magic Of Crafting

Crafting is fun all year round, however there is something extra magic and special about doing it in the cosy months. When it’s dark outside, the rain is pouring, there is nothing like opening a box of crafts and letting little ones get creative. Crafting gives kids a chance to learn, develop skills and have fun all from the comfort of the living room table. From cutting shapes, creating characters to exploring textures they create something they can actually show you, very, very proudly.

No doubt after one craft box they will be asking “can we do that again?” luckily with My Mini Maker, they absolutely can. Our subscriptions deliver a new theme every month to build on their skills, learn about the world all while having fun. Try a one off kit to dip a toe in the fun or a 3 month subscription - the perfect, cosy fun to survive loooong nights at home over the colder months.

Get Lost In Story Telling

You are always one book away from a whole new world, and we all need to escape to one when it’s cold, dark and wet outside. Books can turn an evening into an adventure, why not get cosy on the sofa and enjoy some reading time together? Reading the pages out loud allows little ones to get lost in a story and inspires questions and new ways of thinking. Getting to know characters helps them feel less alone, develop empathy and regulate emotions. Growing big imaginations, one page at a time.

Create The Great Home Bake Off

If there is ever a time to bake, Autumn is definitely it. From chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin cupcakes to fluffy muffins gathering around the kitchen to create something yummy is perfect cosy fun. Recipes can be as simple as a pre-mixed cake pack and choosing toppings. Set each person a task encouraging team work and exploring new skills. The best bit? Trying what you made of course, and who cares how it looks? It’s having fun that counts and cake need not be perfect to be delicious.

Choose A Movie Together

Screens have their magic, and watching a movie together is one of the best things to use them for. Choosing a film together gets everyone invested in how good it is. Whether it’s one you have seen a million times or a fresh from the box office situation - bring out the blankets, popcorn snuggle in and press play. Check out our latest instagram post for some movie ideas for Halloween, can you ever watch Hocus Pocus too many times?

Get Out The Board Games

We all have a favourite, whether scrabble, picture this or Monopoly a board game is a timeless way to have fun together. And you can even play in your PJ’s, making game night a weekly activity throughout the colder months that brings the whole family together and requires nothing but a table and comfy chairs. It takes everyone away from phones, work emails and life admin for a few hours of fun and for a while…  you will even forget about the weather.
